ALTAMURA
ALTAMURA
Eau de Parfum
Altamura is a beautifully strange experience, perhaps the most enigmatic of the L’Entropiste collection, a nebulous dance of perfumed particles, a cosmic aperitif of vaporous orange spirit and cold smoke.
Frankincense trails a fermented scent of ripening pineapple and shimmering pink pepper into the ether, scenting a void of emotional drifting memories. Sweet orange, reminiscent of Cointreau, the orange triple-sec liqueur, is offset by the distillation of various bitter peels, and it is the concept of this contrast that echoes through Altamura.
Perfumers have always been intrigued by the idea of how space and the cosmos might smell. Burnt metal from space debris, star-death, sulphur, cold rocks, ice, plastic and phantom whiffs of fuel. With Altamura, Bertrand Duchaufour presents his thoughts on this cosmic conundrum, with a perfume that swirls, rises and falls like remembrance.
The base notes as always with Bertrand are not just foundation or endgame but an arrangement of notes designed to support and ascend through the composition adding volatile transparent flesh to starlit bones. Fir balsam and pine provide an unexpected terpenic resolution, bathed in amber and the delicious remnants of sweet orange fade. Altamura rewards the skin and senses with a delicious haze of notes and each time it is worn it seems to reveal more of its ambiguous secrets.
