This delicious perfume is inspired by the bergamot-infused taste and aroma of Earl Grey tea swirling through nostalgic echoes of Carnaby Street, Bailey, The Shrimp, Mick Jagger, Twiggy, The Who, Mary Quant and Dusty. Larger than life boys and girls who pushed at the boundaries of life, sex, fashion, drugs and musical innovation. It was an era of dandified fashion, Mods and a rejection of the until then huge influence of American music.

This fusion of music, art, fashion and the cult of personality has never really been equalled, not with the same ferocity and commitment to cause and effect. There was also a distinctive mood of fun and frivolity, not taking things too seriously, combining the British fascination with eccentricity, class, feral beauty and hardcore living, burning millions of candles at so many ends. Tea & Rock n Roll plays with our perceptions of this time, an era now so immersed in nostalgia it is hard to extrapolate reality.

A fantasy sure, but the perfumed construct is simple and evocative. Earl Grey tea is seen as quintessentially British, sipped from porcelain cups, the senses immersed in the mouthfeel of black tea leaves infused with pieces of bergamot peel, one of the perfume world’s most utilised materials. A hybrid of lime and lemon, bergamot is deeply aromatic and appears in an overwhelming percentage of perfumes, usually as a top or head note with other citrus notes and herbs.

The bergamot in Tea & Rock n Roll is beautifully supported by yerba maté, well known as a beverage in South America, brewed from the leaves of a plant in the holly genus. As a perfume note it imparts a mown grassy greenness with hints of leather and sweet hay. Tonka bean is the lovely rounded vanillic note in the base, creating a smooth, woozy fade to the stylish combination of notes.

Tea & Rock n Roll is a witty, chic perfume, managing to be both ephemeral and tangibly sensual. The Earl Grey vibe is just delicious and reminiscent of golden smoky tea with a slice of lemon gently spinning in the steam. Herbaceous and sweet, zesty and dreamy, the concept of languid dandyism is alive and smelling sublime.
