Thumbsucker is inspired by the ancient tale of an Indian King called Yuvanashva, who despite his wealth and power had no male heir. The priests and high officials created a blessed holy water that would be drunk by the queen, boosting her chances of having a boy child. After a long blessing ceremony, the King fell asleep. He woke with a raging thirst and seeing the container full of water, drank every drop. Unease settled through the court, and it was discovered the King was pregnant. The baby was delivered through a hole cut into his side and according to legend Indra the King of Gods attended the unique birth, cut a gash in his thumb, feeding the infant holy milk from his wound.

Tendrils of honeyed animalic woods and styrax resin fume through Thumbsucker, while a dusting of boudoir violet and a lick of boozy cherry shape an unexpected, compelling beauty. A realistic beeswax note imparts a feral sweetness, complimenting the honey and suggesting raw hive wax mixed with bee pheromones, royal jelly, old wood and propolis.

There is no denying the oddity of Thumbsucker, this is due in part to the fatty cold candle wax and bitter almond duo that anchor the scent. The other keynote is the swooning decadence of narcissus, a hypnotic bloom of death and dizzying beauty, forever a flower of dream, narcosis and decadence. It spreads through Thumbsucker like an opiate, numbing and exalting as it does. Narcissus is necessary to counterpoint any bitterness and lifts the bee and candle wax.

The mix of cold, dry and compulsive fluctuations within Thumbsucker make it fascinating to wear.
