Inkcense Musky Moonlight builds on the structure of the original Inkcense, reworking its deep, resinous core into something more diffused and luminous. Where the original leans into density and shadow, this interpretation draws the composition into a sensual, moonlit register.
The fragrance takes its name and inspiration from Qing Yi Lu, a Northern Song Dynasty collection of anecdotes that records a piece of scholar’s ink known as “Musky Moon,” once owned by the Southern Tang prime minister Han Xizai. Made by blending musk into ink, it was said to carry fragrance through writing itself, transforming a functional material into something sensory and fragrant.
Here, that idea is translated into scent. The inky accord remains, but is softened and lifted by an increased presence of white musk, creating a texture that feels smooth, fluid and gently radiant.
Pine and cedar introduce a cool, crisp clarity, while incense, patchouli and vetiver provide depth and continuity through the composition. The result moves between light and shadow, structure and softness, with a distinct sense of air and space.
