The third part of Fragments has been created by Fabrice Oliveri, perfumer, and co-author of a book, The House of Worth about the birth of haute couture. Thynia is his best work to date, complex, layered and chic.

Thynia is a region of Turkey in Anatolia, near the Sea of Marmara, and Fabrice and Neela have succeeded in created a symphony of soothing beige, barley, grain, buff, chalk and cream. A bravura opening of lawn green and creamy coffee lead to the slow-burn drydown in Thyina's sweet and savoury journey towards its final settling of dusted woods and crumbled lavender. Hazelnut is an unusual material, here it smells crushed and powdered with a hints of smoke.

The balsamic body has glossy depth, a lacquered vibe enhanced with tendrils of pale vapours and the chill of raspy birch tar. Everything coalesces with suave understated elegance.

In the end it is a monochrome image of Audrey Hepburn, one of the world’s most radiant and beautiful women, walking along the Seine deep in conversation with haute couturier Hubert de Givenchy that encapsulates Thynia. He had defined her in the public eye, creating a wardrobe that in turn became her. As slim as ever, Hepburn wears her trademark beige trenchcoat as if born it. Others wore it well, similar (Bogart, Bergman, Monroe) but Hepburn elevated it to an iconic level, collar flipped up to frame her enigmatic face, coat belted perfectly to enhance her fragility.

If this image of Hepburn is beige, perhaps it is time to adjust our perceptions of the colour. Fragments’ Thynia with its bountiful oddity of spice, gourmand decoration and intricate use of textured balsams and a smear of violet is the most perfect embodiment of beige and its associated hush.
