BOMBAY BLING
BOMBAY BLING
Eau de Parfum
Bombay Bling was one of the original NVC creations to launch in 2012 accompanied by Trayee and Mohur. Following the patterns laid down by the other perfumes, Bombay Bling is inspired by an era of Indian history, in this case the hustling bustle of contemporary Bombay or Mumbai as it has been called since 1995.
Bollywood is the dazzling whirlwind of Indian cinema, the heart of which beats in Mumbai. Cinematic spectacle unlike anything else where everything is larger than life and everyone can dance, sing and any can fantasise about being the gorgeous heroine or swoon-worthy hero. Bollywood offers Indian film goers a fantasy pause in their lives, to be lost in a form of cinema with history, joy, tragedy, and love, layered always with addictive songs and sensual dancing.
The vibrancy of modern India, in particular its ever-expanding conurbations is reflected in the lush fizz and tropical unction of Bombay Bling. Bling is a great onomatopoeic word, suggesting an over-the-top approach to gold and jewellery, the rise of rapper decoration, ostentatious wealth and the glittering light-bounce off cut stones and precious metals.
The perfume is a mix of sublime fruit notes, mango, lychee, and blackcurrant ripening in baskets on warm street stalls. The sun exalting the tropical, mouth watering scent fruit skin yields when pressed. The expertly delineated jasmine sambac in Bombay Bling is braced against a woven cocoon of frangipani, tuberose and ylang-ylang. The hyper-real fruit and sparingly used green, dry spices weave in and out of the opulent bouquet of white flowers creating an undeniably beautiful, tinselled sari shimmer.
By rights Bombay Bling should be on the heady heavy side with its plush white florals, spices, and radiant rose. But like the ground-breaking Angel by Mugler, launched in 1992, Bombay Bling subverts any fruity gourmandise with earthy patchouli, tobacco, and sandalwood.
Bombay Bling is luxurious in the true sense of the word, a perfume that your senses can revel in, that reveals its playful and sensual character over slow time. The final stages, as with all the NVC perfumes are a soft fade into solicitous memory.
