c'i'aan
EAU DE PARFUM
C’i’aan is a gelid whorl of perfumed air, beautifully chilled, a striking capture of that breathtaking moment of stepping out of a warm, protected enclave and plunging into weather that grips like a vice. Mint, especially spearmint can be a divisive note in perfumery, loaded with associations of toothpaste, salads, gum and associated breath freshening things. But used sparingly and wisely with attention to how it sits within other materials it can be uniquely beautiful.
Spearmint has a sweeter, more rounded profile than the mint we are more familiar with, the tabbouleh, lamby condiment one. In this fascinating Source Adage perfume, the spearmint is clarifyingly fresh, conjuring up ice shot through with dormant algae and bubbles of trapped frozen air. Allied to a gamy, gin & tonic rush of juniper, the effect is dramatic without being in any way overpowering.
This sets the scene for a muffled wave of phantom fir trees and icy water tugging gently at moist sand. C’i’aan is a complex build of landscaped legend, hinting at a mosaic of pathways and ceremonial odours played out across a set of dazzling arctic accords tinged hauntingly by the smell of apple skin and quenching flow of raw juice.
The Source Adage perfumes have elegant dry-downs that move through landscapes and time to beautiful effect. It is a big ask of perfumes to present difference in this saturated un-secret world. But like discovering a new writer whose prose or poetry intimately draws you in, C’i’aan is a sublime experience.
