aka'ula

aka'ula
EAU DE PARFUM
aka’ula is a native Hawaiian word meaning red sunset, fitting for a perfume inspired by rumbling volcanic activity. The original version of the perfume has been updated with the addition of a marine accord and using upcycled materials.
It is one of the most atmospheric perfumes in the collection, delicately mineralised, a scent of hot stones and bubbling cold springs with a moist marine algae note enhanced by citrus and ginger.
Hawaii is well known for its pineapples; they have long been an important export from the islands. The crushed grassiness of pineapple leaves wafts through the heart of aka’ula, boosted by a carefree vetiver note. The volcanic nuances of the perfume are there from the start, but only really become fumed reality as a flinty oud and smoke scenario begin to billow through the composition. Softened by vanilla, the smoky Paynes Grey tonality fades into a cold drift of oceanic tranquillity rolling over dark rocks and algal pools.
Red suggests fire and lava, and while aka’ula is a striking perfume, the smoke, sea-hiss and charred air of vulcanology are smudged and delicate, a mood you can wrap around yourself and slip into a hazy, lazy trance.
