Welcome back to our ongoing series of olfactory postcards designed by @scentcardsfrom. For this second delivery of the Citrus Edit, we leave the sharp, shadow-tinged world of chiaroscuro behind and step directly into the unfiltered glare of the midday sun.
This latest dispatch explores how independent perfumers anchor the bright, volatile energy of citrus within rich, slow-moving atmospheres that feel heavy with heat.
It is a selection that follows the transition from golden landscapes into an intoxicating, sunlit warmth that lingers on the skin long after the sun goes down.
Translating to "Asleep in the Sun," this is a golden waking dreamscape. A hazy, soft orange and mandarin opening melts into an unexpected, drowsy heart of boozy brandy and mimosa, while saffron and smoky guaiac wood fume upward like warm pavement.
Chypre Azural - Les Indémodables
An effortlessly chic love letter to the classic chypre structure that captures pure effervescence and golden light. Brisk, bitter tangy Sicilian Tarocco blood orange dances with sweet orange, sparkling aldehydes, and blushy rose petals before crashing into a rich, warm base of green Indonesian patchouli, ambergris, and a twist of anisic tarragon. It radiates a sophisticated solar energy that wears beautifully on sun drenched skin.
Idìlios - Rubini
The scent of a hush-hush, late-night love affair. Bergamot and mandarin are suspended in the diffusive, milky glow of velvet peach, green tea, coconut, and intoxicatingly honeyed champaca flower. Pastel, aerated and completely addictive.
Allégorie De L'Été - Miskeo Parfums
The dark, bitter chinotto note, both a dark bitter fruit and fizzy fun, plays a part in aerating the other notes. It beautifully compliments anisic fennel and the grassy, tobacco hint of hay, inspired by the lucky accidents of Jean Honoré Fragonard's famous painting, The Swing.
