Realistic lilac perfumes were for years a much sought after dream in perfumery. Along with sweet pea and honeysuckle, they represented ambrosial goals that were difficult to achieve due to the delicacy of such flowers and an inability to extract a true mirror of the complex scents diffused by such magical and beloved blooms. However, olfactive technologies have become incredibly complex and more accurate at capturing elusive molecules. Headspace technology allows big odour houses to research and patent ever-increasing numbers of fascinating smells, be they photo-realistic or abstract concepts.

Lilac (syringa vulgaris) in the garden is one of nature’s most beautiful and romantic plants. The blue, mauve or white inflorescences of heady little clove shaped flowers have a narcotic character that can be exceptionally heady. In rooms, it seems they scent every molecule of air. Lilac is a key indicator of spring, radiating freshness and the confirmation of winter's death.

Dream Sequence is an intriguing perfume, a creamy and amandine lilac note mingled with an unexpected minty liquorice vibe; it is an eccentric mix but one that smells fabulous on skin. The top notes are twiggy petitgrain and bergamot. Lilac, neroli and ambrette in the heart, the ambrette (musk mallow) a lighter animal musk alternative with powder and brandy facets . It compliments the floral narcosis and citrus, bringing an aroma of fresh plastics and new magazines. A musky base has vanilla and tonka bean, creating a very satisfying foundation for the lilac that fades with an elegant silk-stocking finish.
