In many ways, Mojave is a call for rain, a scented hymn rising on hot air to the skies, beseeching water to fall on parched skin. The three key notes of copal, mitti attar and white sage form a muscular triangle around which the other notes drift in and out of desert consciousness.

Copal is an immersive ritualistic incense associated with ceremonial rites, channelling prayers and spirits. Its odour is dense and dusky, shadowy fumes with a bittersweet throatiness. Tanaïs has allied the copal to mitti attar, the eerie scent of metallic rain falling on parched earth, and the smudge-stick ambience of white sage, a sacred material used for millennia to cleanse and purify.

Eucalyptus and an oceanic tang from the collision of smoke and mitti's rain motif create an uneasy balance within Mojave. Will rain fall and water the waiting land or pass through? This anticipation is the pungent and thought-provoking mood of Mojave.

Careworn leather and honeyed lime blossom form an offbeat heart with the addition of palo santo, another smoky wood, enhanced with just the right dose of oud and amber in an elegant late-developing base. Mojave is a fascinating composition to wear, delirious and sparse at the same time.
