This is the centrepiece of perfumer Amelia Rose’s boudoir triptych, a bewitching dreamy spell of dusting powder and a fantastical romantic rose that smells of fairy tales.

Dreamy showgirl roses are scattered on faux satin sheets and a coverlet of intimate pinks, with heart-shaped cushions strewn like candy. Boxes of pink-tipped cocktail Sobranies and pearls slumber on a small bed-side table, its lamp veiled in lace. A dressing table is scattered with half-empty perfume bottles, lipstick-blotted tissues, spider lashes, make-up brushes and spilled powder compacts.

Everyone will have an opinion on the perfume of roses, from jammy, honeyed and Loukhoum to sweet petrol, almonds and lipstick. Faux Rose slyly suggests a certain plasticity and gaudiness and this concept is sensually exalted with a moreish honeycomb effect and the unusual addition of a delicious patisserie accord inspired by Pan di Spagna, the classic Italian cake made with just three ingredients, flour, eggs and sugar. Occasionally a lick of vanilla or twist of lemon is added for subtle flavouring.

All of this is perfect scene-setting for a sophisticated yet playful flirt of a perfume that will delight the senses and make you smile.
