Sándalo is an olfactive study of tremulous earth, our smallness in the face of nature's elemental power. Tanaïs has forged a deeply strange and mesmerising perfume inspired by the pungent metallic violence and ashen eeriness of imagined volcanic activity on the Hawaiian islands, a chain of tropical land birthed from seething seas.

A volcanic ash accord plumes amid the imagined textural scent of lapilli, the small pumice stones ejected during eruptions. As the name suggests, it is Tanaïs' handling of generous doses of sandalwood that shapes Sándalo, in particular the deeply aromatic Hawaiian sandalwood bolstered by a Mysore sandalwood accord. The dry pencil shavings woodiness of cedar is subtle but gently burnished to allow a woody lullaby to form in the base notes.

Volcanic eruptions and lava flows consume everything in their path. Forests burn, sap and foliage, bark and trunks emitting singed air, green, sooty with rage. This is hinted at in Sándalo, the devouring of wood as ocean winds pull fire in differing directions. Intriguingly there is an initial scent of bursting rubicund berries that works elegantly with the milky sandalwood and piquant silver cedar.

Sándalo is disruptive, a perfume where skin is ocean and notes hit flesh, alive and seething with coastal beauty. Geographical happening as personal weather, a loaded glimpse into tumult and aftermath.
