Limited Edition Parfum
Iris Tannat opens a new chapter at Danner & Flemming: a darker, more niche-leaning collection, and the first of their perfumes to bring both of their iris varieties together in a single composition. Antoine Lie builds it around a 3.5% high dose of Bavarian Iris pallida, and the result is powerful, shadowed and slightly masculine in tone.
It takes its name and its mood from the wild Basque country, where robust dark wines mature in oak barrels and gnarled vines grip rocky slopes. The opening is unmistakably cellar-like, wine lees and rum warmed through with nutmeg. Then the iris arrives, not powdered but resinous and earthen, pallida butter laid against germanica resinoid, with rose and ylang-ylang lending a dark velvet bloom through the heart.
The base is where the hillside comes in. Vetiver and patchouli over oak, dry and rooted and faintly tannic. Iris Tannat wears like something aged in a barrel rather than distilled from a flower.
