Eau de Parfum
This is a magnetic, icy void of a perfume, as if the crystalline edges of a black hole are pulling us into a metallic, glorious unknown. Some perfumes feel intimate and closed, others vast and ambiguous. Dawn Whispers is the latter, a call to memory through the frozen veil that hangs between our world and a glacial Elysium. The opening of cold white dust and milky metallics is detonated by macrocyclic musks with hints of wintry pear and smoky freezer burn.
A carbonic snow accord and bright ozonics expand the polar mood, increasing the moreish tenacity of Dawn Whispers. On skin the coldness feels like walking into a snowstorm, a taste of aluminium in the mouth, crushing white flowers that spill marble-coloured sap like wax onto the snow. Abstraction is oh so tricky to pull off without appearing pretentious, but this is Bertrand Duchaufour, the antithesis of tricksy. With Dawn Whispers we get to experience the intimate calving of the ice sheet, reminding us that love falls away and we either feel reduced or celebrate the ablation as a burden lifted.
