QUEEN NZINGA
QUEEN NZINGA
Eau de Parfum
Queen Nzinga celebrates the life of an African warrior queen, Nzinga Ana de Sousa Mbande (1583-1663). She had been born with her umbilical cord around her neck, read as a powerful omen of who she would become. She was a soldier, warrior trained but also an expert diplomat when she needed to be, defeating the Portuguese colonists on several occasions. Queen Nzinga was also a fluent mistress of rituals, hugely important as leader of people who placed huge stock in divination, ceremony and the arcane.
The perfume is quite unusual, combining a chutney & sherbet vibe with sticky tamarind and a bittersweet of salted lemons and green mango. These are impressions and we will all interpret Queen Nzinga differently. The toffee apple varnish of amber is a top note, dripping down to a delicate geranium centre to the tamarind and its fleshy, acidic pulp. Tamarind is used all over the world in many cuisines and has a very distinctive taste and smell. In Queen Nzinga, it imparts a mix of woody powder and ripe papaya. The overall effect of this alluring scent is one of strength and softness, enigma and inspiring femininity.
