ESHAL

The word eshal translates as flower of paradise, the perfect name for the latest addition to the Neela Vermeire Créations collection. As usual, Eshal is the work of Master Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, responsible for Neela’s working through a resonant selection of Indian history, faith, exploration and the sensory complexities of Indian flora and cuisine.

Eshal is a very beautiful and surprising perfume. Throughout the Neela Vermeire Créations line, the scents are enhanced by the inclusion of materials that reflect the marriage of Indian culture and the French perfume classicism beloved by Neela.

Eshal is perfume as parure, fitting as tuberose blooms are often used in the floral leis. It is one of the finest perfumes Bertrand has yet created, a fascinating blend of opulent blooms and a truly obsessively beguiling turmeric - cinnamon duet.

These two spice oils utterly transform the floral experience of the tuberose and radiant citrus notes in the opening salvo of red mandarin, bitter orange, lime and petitgrain. Beeswax absolute adds a subtle but noticeable animalic and pheromonic smear as a lovely Peru balsam and tactile labdanum add just the right amount of sweetened leather.

Eshal is a magnificent achievement, presenting tuberose, an often-divisive flower in a novel and thought-provoking way. Pungency and tenderness combine, and the notes lead to a cosmic, sultry sunset of daring floral satisfaction.
