Smoke on the water. A slow low sonic boom. Out of the fog something is heralded by the strange, indecipherable sound of water thunder. This perplexing scent explores the eerie mystery of Mistpouffer, the name given to the aural phenomenon.

The Japanese refer to it as uminari, or cries form the sea, and many theories have been forward as to the cause of the sound, from solar winds, gas bubbles, earthquakes , ghosts and water spirits.

It took Stora Skuggan four years of research before they were happy with Mistpouffer's final composition. Foggy not overtly aquatic, gently smoky and natural, not funereal or spooky. By nature, fog is intangible, ethereal and eerie, something that cannot be captured despite its ability to obfuscate landscapes.

Mistpouffer drifts intimately around a core of immortelle, fig and smoke. The salt-cured liquorice vibe of immortelle is used with skill and awareness of effect. An emerald inflection of pine is wrapped in ozone, aerating the heart. Smoke and the stony enigma of cypriol are the bitter water, enhanced by the damp rootiness of quality vetiver. There is an unexpected note of malt sugar in the base of Mistpouffer, providing a lacteal veneer that is quietly comforting.

Throughout there is a sense of external atmosphere within a tension cloud of erratic weather, and this is tempered by the unpredictable nature of fog, rolling, creeping and veiling. Sounds are muted, and for a moment you are alone with just your beautifully scented skin.
