This beautiful amber smells initially of creamy almond dust with the texture of gauzy tuile. There is a mauve shimmer to the composition. Moonlit Amber is a scent of assignations, the fleeting glimpse of a periwinkle blue gown in a shadowed carriage. The throupling of rose, orris and opoponax is sublime, incendiary and intricate as filigree. Melancholic myrrh and a lovely wash of bitter orange complement the burgeoning heart notes, suggesting moody footsteps through powdered courtyards.

The drama of Moonlit Amber plays out with quietude and a soft candlelit beauty despite some of the more bombastic materials over-exerting themselves. Just beyond the midway point, a gorgeous patchouli note begins to make itself more noticeable. It was always there, but quietly; the aroma of cocoa and church pews is perfect, counterpointing the floral creaminess of the opening. Further enhanced by soft sandalwood, leathered green labdanum and the enticing musks of desirous flesh.

A drop of synthetic castoreum (originally a powerful animalic musk extracted from beaver glands), floods the ambered formula with a sudden dirty frisson, bringing the various notes into a matrix of molten want, glittering bone white in the moonlight of hidden desires.

The light of the moon is so different from any other light, alabaster luminescence that seems to cast a strange spell. Milky, pearlescent, silvered and chalky, moonlight seems to X-ray love, imply an otherworldly ambience, both revelation and mask. Moonlight is romance and subterfuge. A light of concealment and delicious bursts of exposure. Moonlit Amber is all this and more, a perfume of mystery and craven love.
