NO PERFUME
NO PERFUME
Fine Fragrance
Smoke signals on frozen Siberian night. Bodies wrapped in fur and hide. The end of an evening, love-worn flesh fumed by the pungent embers of a dying fire. A glass topped table catching the light, a crystal tumbler with amber traces of an Islay malt smeared around the glass. Faded cigars linger whispering over those slumbering bodies.
No Perfume is a not a scent for the faint hearted; these tarry singed scents can be overpowering for some and catnip for others. It is smoke with bells, whistles, klaxons and heavenly choirs.
Christophe Laudamiel has used synthetic cresols in No Perfume (if ever a perfume was more contradictorily named…) a stygian phenolic proto musk that naturally occurs in jasmine, horses and beavers. Cresols are divisive things, not everyone can handle the tarry roar and lingering fumes.
If you like a perfume with medicinal smoky weather, No Perfume creates an impact akin to an asteroid strike. Yes, it smells pervasive and clings like the wraiths of hellfire, but the vast shock of it develops into something enveloping and personal.
That night odour of watching bonfires, unaware how richly permeated clothes, hair and skin have become. Once indoors, the full bloom of hunters’ fire reveals itself.
