Hyperion, the extraordinary and unclassifiable perfume from the creative team of Andrea Rubini and perfumer Cristiano Canali is cosmically explosive and desolate, a scent of void and hushed pilgrimage.

Hyperion is a cosmic experience. An incredible balance of internal pressure and gravity control in a travelling pod contrasted with the vastness of never-ending space outside, the external eldritch forces searching for a way to break the ship apart. The floral citrus tang of Yuzu fruit and sharp piney freshness of juniper are light and water wrapped in the safe embrace of gentle incense. As Hyperion travels, starlight flickers in the deep dark cosmic weather of metallic loneliness, having one’s own history to read and reread in a head dazzled by void.

A singed patchouli note is tempered by a beautifully creamy sandalwood and ylang-ylang duo, the mix of ivory, dark and smutted effects suggesting the profundity of space. It would not be a Rubini perfume without innovation and creative accords. In Hyperion, Cristiano Canali, one of the gifted perfume artisans working today has created two compelling accords, Supernova and Deep Space, both fascinating in their suggestion of cold nebulae of metal, dust and gas clouds.

There is a sense of propulsion and stillness, travelling through perfumed time. The hull of capsicum and industrial ambers is a huge shock as Hyperion opens, the cosmos itself seems to hold its breath. The longevity is superb and haunts like a gently rolling ship far far away, a cosmonaut disappeared by something he was not meant to witness.
