Grounded Hills recalls the Hakka tradition of lei ch'a, or pounded tea, a ritual nearly two thousand years old in which tea leaves, grains and nuts are worked together in a stone mortar, turning the simplest ingredients into sustenance. In Taiwan, Hakka communities in Beipu, Hsinchu have kept this tradition alive for generations, the toasty, nutty scent of roasted grains filling the old street's air.

Perfumer Kaiwei Hsieh has translated this warmth into a fragrance of gentle, sustaining comfort. Sesame and brown rice open with a toasted, nutty richness. A roasted, earthy depth grounds the centre, while tea leaves carry the composition through with aromatic clarity.

Grounded Hills was a finalist in the Independent Category at the 12th Art and Olfaction Awards in Athens, 2026. A fragrance as sustaining as the tradition it recalls.
