Standing before Gian Lorenzo Bernini's Apollo and Daphne, Isabelle Larignon found herself undone by it, and the perfume that followed is a tribute to the sculptor, to Italy, and to woman.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBuilt around an accord of iris, orange blossom and woods, Dafneïs holds the minerality of white marble, the deep-rootedness and melancholy of a woman mid-metamorphosis, and the composed elegance of the Italian Renaissance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe formula follows Ovid. First the whiteness and cold mineral surface of Bernini's marble, in white sandalwood and orange blossom. Then Apollo's pursuit and Daphne's frantic flight, her body exhausted and overcome by the exertion, in styrax. Then the heavy torpor that seizes her: once-nimble feet becoming immobile roots in Corps Racine®, iris and patchouli; her chest enveloped in a thin bark of cedar and vetiver; her hair becoming foliage and her arms branches, in galbazine and laurel. Immortelle closes the composition, a tribute to a woman's vow to remain her own for ever.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe box tells the myth in four stages, illustrated like engravings by the French artist Dimitri Rybaltchenko. Its lid shows Eros drawing two arrows, gold for Apollo and lead for Daphne; the four sides carry the chase; the cross-shaped interior of the base shows the metamorphosis beginning, seen from Bernini's own angle; and the case for the travel size completes it, Daphne now a laurel bush with her heart still beating beneath the bark.
